Asuntha Karunaratne (Ph.D Student)
Asuntha Karunaratne BBSc (Hons) (Monash University) is a PhD student at the Department of Medicine, Monash Medical School, Alfred Hospital. In 2003 she conducted her Honours study, “Ethical Issues in Research: The Impact of the Ethics Committee”, with Prof. Paul Komesaroff, Prof. Paul Myles and Ms. Marta Ago. The main findings of this study have formed the foundation for her PhD study, “Monitoring the Process of Consent in Human Subject Research”, commenced in 2004. Under the supervision of Prof. Paul Komesaroff she is interested in obtaining the participants’ and the researchers’ perspectives on informed consent in research to ultimately produce an instrument to assess participant satisfaction with the process.
Asuntha has experience in ethics teaching at Monash University for undergraduate Medical students, Radiography, and Health Sciences students.
